Stanley Cup Final 2009 – Game One.

Saturday night Julie and I headed to Detroit for the last time in my life. After the seeing the first to games of the Stanley Cup Final last year (2008 Game One, Game Two) I decided to tempt fate again and I have learned my lesson. Nothing good will ever come out of my presence in the city of Detroit. The Pens played a decent game and if not for the dual goal tending defensive strategy employed by the Wings the outcome could have been different.

Visiting Detroit is a lot like entering the Thunderdome:

Stanley Cup Finals – Game 2.

Another rough day in Detroit.  The Pens lose 3-0 to the Red Wings and going are now down two games to none.

The positives:

  1. Our Seats were awesome (better than Barry Melrose).
  2. Ted Kennedy is doing fine and was at the game.
  3. I don’t live in Detroit.

The downside would be everything else.  We made the 4.5 hour trip there and back in one day so the driving was pretty rough.  We managed to find a even more shady liquor store than the time before.  Detroit fans are pretty rough but that was to be expected.

Stanley Cup Finals – Game 1.

Last night Julie and I were at game one of the Stanley Cup Finals in Detroit.  The game didn’t end that way we would have wanted but that’s why it’s a seven game series.  We’ll be back in Detroit for game 2 (and if need be game 7).

Our seats were literally the last row in the Joe Louis Arena which meant we stood the entire game and struggled to see the goal are on our end.  Granted the Pens we’re going for the other goal 2 of the 3 periods but they never scored.  Our seats will be much better tomorrow.

Before the game we spent some time at the Post Bar which when we got there in the afternoon was filled with Red Wing fans.  The bar was very ‘Detroit’ and by that I mean they had cold bottle beer and no draft… and the place was covered in graffiti.
