{"id":434,"date":"2004-03-22T21:04:46","date_gmt":"2004-03-23T01:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackhandproductions.com\/?p=434"},"modified":"2004-03-22T21:04:46","modified_gmt":"2004-03-23T01:04:46","slug":"the-pledge-history-and-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackhandproductions.com\/?p=434","title":{"rendered":"The Pledge, History and God."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Short History of the Pledge of Allegiance:<\/p>\n<p>The Pledge was first published in the September 8th, 1892 issue of The Youth&#8217;s  \tCompanion having been written by a Socialist Baptist minister Francis Bellamy.<\/p>\n<p>The Pledge of Allegiance as printed in 1892:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, \t with liberty and justice for all.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Changes through the years:<\/p>\n<p>1923:\tNational Flag Conference changed the words &#8220;my flag&#8221; to &#8220;the Flag of the United States of America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>1954:\tCongress, after being lobbied by the Knights of Columbus, added the words &#8220;under God&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Commentary:<\/p>\n<p>First why is there a need for a pledge? Second why did Congress have          to add &#8216;Under God&#8221; to it anyway&#8217;s? It probably had something to do with          fighting Godless &#8216;Communists&#8217; but does it really need to be there? Can&#8217;t          we pledge allegiance without mentioning your god?
