This past trip to New York led Julie and I to Grant’s Tomb<\/a> on the northwest side of Manhattan. \u00a0As National Parks<\/a> go this has to be the most low\u00a0maintenance\u00a0park in the country.\u00a0\u00a0There were\u00a0three other people at the tomb while we were there and one of them was the Park Ranger. \u00a0To say it was on a large scale would be an understatement. \u00a0The entire building is basically one large room \u00a0leading down to where Grant and his wife are held in these massive granite sarcophagi. \u00a0The tomb is a little out of the way but well worth the trip if you’re in Manhattan looking to get off the beaten path.<\/p>\n

Side Note:<\/p>\n

* By far the most interesting part of the Tomb are the busts of Grant’s generals which sit on display around the sarcophagi. \u00a0The one watching over Grant is of course William Tecumseh Sherman<\/a> who once famously said:<\/p>\n

“General Grant\u00a0is a great general<\/em>. I know him well. He stood by me when I was crazy, and I stood by him when he was drunk; and now, sir, we stand by each other always.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
