92-year-old Kathryn Johnston did not going softly into the night. After three undercover police officers kick down her door Johnston did want any self respecting woman that’s been around for nearly a century would do… take a few of them with her.

Johnston managed to shot three of the officers before meeting her own demise. She got off three shots, hitting one cop in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder.

The Assistant Chief Alan Dreher said the officers had a legal warrant and “knocked and announced” before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in shooting once they were fired upon.

Now I can see where a 92-year-old woman might not get confused that in the middle of the night three men in plain clothes busting down her door are actually police officers. Espically when they have guns drawn.

Here’s to Kathryn Johnston, not taking shit from nobody.

Lies, Sweet Little Lies.

Digging the World.

When I was about eight my brother and I were part of this summer day camp/field trip thing called Discover Columbus where we would go to different places in Columbus each day on a bus. Not a school bus but a COTA bus. One of our stops was the campus of Ohio State University where we got to eat lunch and play football at Ohio Stadium. On our walk to the stadium we stopped by this marker that our group leader told us lead straight to China. The whole ‘if you dig a whole right here you’ll end up in China‘ thing.  I bought that bullshit for a long time.

Fast forward about 13 years and I’m taking a Geology class at Ohio State and our professor gives us a tour of the campus and he points out the same marker. Not sure the signifigance but it definitly had nothing to do with China. So now I find this site that uses google maps to let you ‘dig a whole’ and see where it ends up. Needless to say digging a whole in Columbus, Ohio doesn’t get you even fucking close to China.

Columbus Trip: Ohio State – Michigan Weekend.

This past Saturday I went to Columbus for the Ohio State – Michigan game. After waiting in the ‘Cab Line’ (I didn’t know there was such a thing) I managed to share a ride with a USC grad and a couple from Chicago. The couple decided to fight the whole way to campus and really tried to talk the cab driver into stopping to drop off their luggage before taking them to their destination. I took the chance when we stopped for the luggage drop to get out of the car and proceed on foot. The USC girl followed as we walked about 2 miles to Lane Avenue.

The tailgate situation wasn’t bad but it was much colder than I had anticipated. I ended up watching the majority of the game at the Varsity Club where I ran in to Keith (see photo below) and hung out with Andy for a quarter or two.

On Sunday I caught the Steelers – Browns game at King Avenue Five with the usual suspects. As you can tell Nick Barbone was in no shape to see his Browns loose once again to the Steelers. At one point Nick clearly resembled a Hobo when he was ordering a water at the bar dressed in a borrowed coat.
