US Cellular Field: Beerman Bobblehead.

Last night Julie and I headed down to the South Side for the ‘Beerman Bobblehead Night’ at US Cellular Field.  The White Sox ended up losing in the 9th inning to the Tigers.  We had heard about the bobblehead when the tickets went on sale for the season and this was a priority.  Every time we go to a White Sox game, I think more and more how much more enjoyable the whole experience can be compared to Wrigley Field.  It’s just so much easier to get around, the food is much better and typically the team is better.

Beerman Bobblehead night at the Sox game. I've been waiting all summer for this. Also, no bobbleheads for kids.DSC_0124.JPGDSC_0158.JPGDSC_0162.JPGDSC_0180.JPGDSC_0156.JPGDSC_0195.JPGDSC_0232.JPGDSC_0241.JPGDSC_0169.JPGDSC_0230.JPGDSC_0321.JPG

Kingston Mines: Magic Slim.

DSC_0067.JPGDSC_0060.JPGDSC_0041.JPG

On Friday I made my first visit to Kingston Mines to see Magic Slim and the Tear Drops.  The way Kingston Mines is setup is there are two stages each with their own band.  The first band starts at 9:30pm and plays for an hour and the next band plays on the other stage at 10:30pm for an hour.  This continues until the final set begins at 2:30am.  I didn’t make it past the second set on the main stage.

Magic Slim is about as Blues as one can get.  Here’s the first senetence to his wikipedia page:

Magic Slim was forced to give up playing the piano when he lost his little finger in a cotton gin mishap.

The food at Kingston Mines is something to be witnessed.  We ordered two BBQ chicken pizzas and we kept getting two catfish sandwiches.  The whole ordeal took more than an hour to get sorted out.  My advice is if you must eat at Kingston Mines don’t, but if you insist then just order the catfish sandwich and you’ll save a lot of people some grief.

This past weekend Julie and I traveled to Waterloo, Iowa for the Frederick – Mayberry Wedding.  The wedding was at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. The weather was perfect for the ceremony which was held outside.  A good time was had by all.
