The Who at Madison Square Garden.

Last night Julie and I sat behind Richard Gere and his family at The Who concert. He’s really not too much to write home about as you will see in the photos below he’s really started to Rock the Mullet. In addition to sitting behind the Gere’s we also sat behind three middle aged men who were passing a blunt the entire night. It took us a while to figure out where the smoke was coming from since we were pretty much sorrounded by people over the age of 50.

The concret was pretty good, there were some sound issues with Roger Daltrey’s vocals but everything else sounded really good. Bascially we got to see The Who play Baba O’Reilly live and it doesn’t get much better than that. Oh, and Pete Townsend is a Jukebox Hero.

Ben Harper at Central Park.

Tonight Julie and I went to Central Park to see Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. We got there early enough to hear the opener, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, finish their set which was peferect timing considering that’s when everyone hits the beer stand. We were able to move up to about 10 feet from the stage to see Ben Harper.

The show was one of the better one’s I’ve seen this summer considering they even did a cover of Neil Young’s Heart of Gold. Also, the opener Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and his band came on stage during the set and played Get Up Stand up which was really good. Ben finished the night with an acoustic set that included some crazy guitar stuff that I can’t even begin to describe.

Ted Leo @ River to River 2006

Last night we checkout Ted Leo and the Pharmacists at this years River to River Festival. The show was at The South Street Seaport which is like one of those fake old towns that you see, with cobble stone streets and all. The music was good but for no other reason than luck we stood behind all the tall people at the concert.

My view at the Ted Leo ShowJulie's view at the Ted Leo Show

It was fine until the show started and then the guy in the pink shirt on the left decided to stand directly in front of me. It wouldn’t have been so bad but for the hair. So I bitched a lot during the show and then I noticed what the view would be like from Julie’s spot. As you can see in the second image above it’s worse than mine.

We ended up moving around to the side of the stage where you could actually see the band and then I stopped complaining and we started to make fun hipsters.
