A good idea.

I highly recommend people take some time out and find a way they can help our people over there out. No matter where you stand on the war you should take some time out to think about the people sent over there.

So I recommend you checkout www.booksforsoliders.com. It’s a online military support community where deployed active duty solider’s can post request for care packages and individuals state side can pick a request to fulfill. Requests range from standard care packages to books to movies to PS2 games. I like the idea that you can find something that interests you and help out in a unique way. It’s amazing the power of communication today, as they told us in the eighth grade “Soon we’ll on be on the Information Super Highway.

Mozilla Firefox reaches 1.0.

For the Window’s users out there: Mozzila.org has released their Free & Secure web browser: FireFox 1.0, which can be downloaded here. FireFox 1.0 provides a safe alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. FireFox 1.0 includes many features yet to show up in IE 6.0 such as:

  • Pop-up Blocker
  • Web Standards (lets you view webpages the way they should be viewed)
  • Tabbed Browsing (Allows you to open several webpages within one window)
  • Privacy & Security (Keeps malicious spyware out of your PC)
  • Built-in Google Search
  • In my humble opionion IE is the Maginot Line of the Window’s Operating System. Mircosoft has pumped a shitload of money into it and they keep saying it’s safe and secure but you know at any minute the Germans are going to go around it. I highly recommend you install FireFox 1.0 and begin using it instead of Microsoft’s IE 6.0; the U.S. Government even thinks it’s a good idea. Don’t let your computer become a Vichy PC.

For anyone who didn't see John Stewart call Tucker a Dick.

For those who didn’t hear the American Hero John Stewart was on CNN’s CrossFire last friday and he had some kind words for the hosts:

STEWART: In many ways, it’s funny. And I made a special effort to come on the show today, because I have privately, amongst my friends and also in occasional newspapers and television shows, mentioned this show as being bad.
    BEGALA: We have noticed.
STEWART: And I wanted to — I felt that that wasn’t fair and I should come here and tell you that I don’t — it’s not so much that it’s bad, as it’s hurting America.
    CARLSON: But in its defense…
STEWART: So I wanted to come here today and say…Here’s just what I wanted to tell you guys.
    CARLSON: Yes.
    STEWART: Stop.
STEWART: Stop, stop, stop, stop hurting America.
    BEGALA: OK. Now
STEWART: And come work for us, because we, as the people…
    CARLSON: How do you pay?
STEWART: The people — not well.
BEGALA: Better than CNN, I’m sure.
STEWART: But you can sleep at night.
STEWART: See, the thing is, we need your help. Right now, you’re helping the politicians and the corporations. And we’re left out there to mow our lawns.
BEGALA: By beating up on them? You just said we’re too rough on them when they make mistakes.
STEWART: No, no, no, you’re not too rough on them. You’re part of their strategies. You are partisan, what do you call it, hacks.

You can view the clip or read the transcript here. Stewart goes on to make fun of Tucker’s bow tie and then calls him a dick. MTV News covered the story with this headline: Jon Stewart Bitchslaps CNN’s ‘Crossfire’ Show
