Worst Device Ever.

The Dlink DWL-520 PCI wifi card is horrible. Absolutly horrible.

I’ve been trying to get it to work on my Windows2000 machine for 2 days now and nothing. I called tech support and they seemed to know how bad it was. Tech support suggested I uninstall and then re-install and then they were amazed at how the config utility didn’t seem to resemble what they thought it should. After checking the date on the driver we noticed it was from March 28th…20002! After checking Google groups I noticed this could quite possibly be the worst wifi card on the market, thank god I didn’t pay money for it.

Fixed my FTP Problems

I’ve been trying some different FTP clients (windows) to setup the ability to post remotely. I just learned what part of my apache config file to edit so I could redirect my webserver to the more common Users/username/sites/ directory. This has allowed me to use OS X’s default FTP server that points to a user’s Home directory. I’ve also decided to stop using Bullet Proof FTP and instead I’ve chosen to use Dreamweaver’s built-in FTP capabilities.

Wifi and endless possibilities

I’ve been looking more and more into creating a couple wifi hotspots. Over the past several months I’ve setup four different home wifi networks using a 4-port Wireless Netgear router. The setup and installation has been pretty much flawless and the range of the various networks is pretty amazing (actually I’m writing this post from the confines of my couch a room away from my cable modem). I’m interested in seeing how many wifi devices these netgear routers can handle at one time.
