Lies, Sweet Little Lies.

Digging the World.

When I was about eight my brother and I were part of this summer day camp/field trip thing called Discover Columbus where we would go to different places in Columbus each day on a bus. Not a school bus but a COTA bus. One of our stops was the campus of Ohio State University where we got to eat lunch and play football at Ohio Stadium. On our walk to the stadium we stopped by this marker that our group leader told us lead straight to China. The whole ‘if you dig a whole right here you’ll end up in China‘ thing.  I bought that bullshit for a long time.

Fast forward about 13 years and I’m taking a Geology class at Ohio State and our professor gives us a tour of the campus and he points out the same marker. Not sure the signifigance but it definitly had nothing to do with China. So now I find this site that uses google maps to let you ‘dig a whole’ and see where it ends up. Needless to say digging a whole in Columbus, Ohio doesn’t get you even fucking close to China.

Spectra Logic 2000?

Spectra Logic 2000

Today at work I got a call from our Network Administrator asking me to ‘cycle the power’ on the Spectra Logic 2000. Needless to say I was taken aback by this request. I’ve dealt with an AS400 which I always thought was the most powerful computer ever designed by man, but today I discovered how wrong I was.

Anything named the Spectra Logic 2000 must be control something on the scale of Missle Defense for the Soviet Union. You would expect something as powerful as the Spectra Logic 2000 to have been destoyed by MI6 long ago. We’ll you’d be wrong, instead the Spectra Logic is plugging along at my work.

*Side Note:

To ‘cycle the power’ on the Spectra Logic 2000, you don’t press a button or flip a switch, no, you pull a lever.

The Soviets wouldn’t have it any other way.
