Scarecrow: Creation and Destruction.

Ronald Regan Scarecrow - 2007.

After several false starts we finally located a purveyor of hay so that I could assemble my long promised Ronald Reagan Scarecrow. I was going to go with an ironic funny shirt but I thought business casual was more fitting. It took a while to get his head straight and secure but I think it looked pretty good. When I was setting him up we had some people from the street laughing their asses off recognizing that it was Ronald Reagan.

To keep the head straight we had to thread string through Reagan’s nose and ears and then tie it down to the fence. We also thought this would keep any depressed Cubs fan from removing his head. I was wrong.

Destruction.

After one night Ronald aquired a taste for cigars.Destroyed.disbelief.

The scarecrow lasted less than 48 hours. After the first night some one put a cigar in his mouth and no harm was done. Yesterday though was the Cubs lone home playoff game which they were destined to lose. I knew the odds of Reagan surviving untouched were low but I figured the devastation to be less complete. I was wrong.

Missing Roland Reagan, former leader of the free world. Reward for the safe return.

Game #1: Penn State Vs. Michigan.

On Saturday I drove to Ann Arbor to meet up with Luke and catch the Michigan – Penn State game. The morning got off to a great start when I woke at 5:40 am head to the shower and head out only to find there was no hot water. Perfect. Luke and I met up with his friend from college Danielle and her boyfriend Tobias.. We grabbed a couple beers and then began our march to the Stadium. As you can see by the pictures below it was interesting to say the least.

Of course Michigan won the game. I’ve been to probably 7 Michigan games with the hope they would lose and I think it’s only happened twice. Considering their 0-2 record when I bought the tickets this game was a sure thing. Or so I believed. Michigan was able to run between the 20’s pretty effectively but the difference in the game was an early fumble by Penn State quarterback Anthony Morelli in the first quarter which lead to a touchdown. There were several shady calls (Instant Replay and Pass Interference) which only confirms my belief that playing at Michigan is nearly a certain defeat if it’s a close game.

Other than that it was a good time. Our seats were great, the weather was perfect and the assholes who sat behind us left at Halftime. After the game we headed out with Luke’s friends for a couple drinks where we had Strongbow on draft. With those drinks and the two pints of Magic Hat #9 I had during dinner made it a successful trip.

Thanks to Tobias for driving me taking me to two different liquor stores in search of a case of Magic Hat. The search was unsuccessful but at least an attempt was made.

Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

This evening Julie and I headed to catch the Mets game at Merkle’s with the hope that a lame live band wound not be playing.  Of course this wasn’t the case so we had to try plan B.  On the way to Merkle’s we passed the above seen on Addison.  I guess there was a Cubs game this afternoon, if this girl was conscious she could probably tell me all about.  I must say the most amusing part is that she’s only wearing socks in a puddle of vomit.

Stay Classy.

Cosby Sweater Party… Michael Jackson Glove.

To avoid the post game rush/debauchery we headed to the Village Tap in Roscoe Village.  Neither of us have been there so it was worth a shot.  Besides the douchebag next to our table playing the golden teen like bowling game the place was pretty cool.  On our way out we stumbled upon a thrift store which I haven’t been to in way too many years.  The smell was dead on and with the recent talk of reviving the Annual Cosby Sweater Party I thought it my duty to check things out.  That’s is how I got to the next two photographs.  I bought the sweater above which I must say had the stench of 1983 all over it.

The best part of my night had to be when we left the thrift store and I looked down on the sidewalk and what did my eyes see… a single Michael Jackson glove.  Awesome.  I wore the glove home and used it to flag down a cab.

This is why I bought the iPhone, for nights like this.
