Murphy's Pub.

Bronder, Julie, Christine

Friday night I headed to Murphy’s Pub with Julie and her friend Christine for a couple drinks. Due to the biblical downpour it took quite a while to get to bar since the subway system in Queens was down and the car service phone was busy for the better part of an hour. Regardless, as the photographs below show we made it.

Confused.

Like most nights, Friday ended with the man down the street who servers meat on a stick. What kind of meat you ask? I have no idea, much like I have no idea what kind of sauce is drenches the meat with. All I know is I probably would never eat such a thing in the light of day but I am drawn to it once the clock strikes midnight.

Side note:
The meat on the stick industry down the street from me (Steinway and 31st Avenue in Astoria) is a microcosm of Capitalism at work. There are at least three meat on a stick vendors working there at all times of the day. Each vendor has their own corner and does great business. There are lines of people waiting. The photograph above is my meat on a stick guy, he calls me Boss. And yes that is a grocery bag on his head and a trash bag on his back.
A resourceful man.

Urban Beach.

To celebrate Memorial Day we headed to the beach…

The Water Taxi Beach that is. The beach lacked access to water but did have a bar (which is always worth a couple points in my book). I managed to work on my farmers tan as well as my sunglass burn. For some reason the only beer they had was some kind of German beer that didn’t set well in the heat.

To describe the beach properly I only need two words:
1. Concrete
2. Sand
