Last night we headed up to Lincoln Square for Mayfest and stayed in the back area to avoid the massive crowds of years past (2008 & 2010). As most neighborhood festivals in Chicago, Mayfest works on the ‘voluntary donation’ for entrance and the tickets system for food and drinks. Each ticket is $1 and 15 tickets gets you a boot filled with a liter of beer, 10 tickets gets you a refill. Not exactly a deal but it’s not every day you get to drink beer out of a boot.
This past Friday Santa went out for a night on the town before getting to the serious business of delivering toys. You can tell by many of the photographs that the big man is under a lot of stress. We started the night at Southport Lanes and made our way to Blue Bayou but as usual Santa ran out of steam after crossing Addison. It’s all candy canes and big helpings of jolly until you have to walk those couple blocks between Lange’s and Hye Bar. Then it’s all disheveled, angry depressed Santa.
The big man did manage to bring a lot of joy along the way and a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who made it out this year.
It’s that time of year once again. I’ve been working my ass of making a list and checking it twice and you’re invited to Santa’s Pub Crawl on Friday, December 17th. The route is similar to pervious years, Santa and his jolly bunch will start at Southport Lanes at 8pm and then head North. I’m not sure if my Elves will be able to come up with any Polaroid film this year but they’ve been known to pull of miracles in the past. As always, Santa would like it if you could buy him a beer during the night as it has been rather difficult in this economy to maintain the proper manufacturing infrastructure needed to keep up with the Chinese Santa.
