St. Patrick’s Primer: The Dark Horse

IMG_0400.JPG
To kickoff the St. Patrick’s Day weekend we headed over to The Dark Horse waiting for the arrival of Jim Wallis. There were several drinks shared,  a couple of North Shore friends and the uneventful trip to the Wiener’s Circle where a ‘Double Chocolate Shamrock Shake’ was spotted.

Unlike last year there was no snow, everyone who was coming actually made it and the Airline’s more or less cooperated.

A good start to the weekend.

Broomball World Championship

IMG_0340.JPG

This past Monday my Broomball team (Ice Cold Blue Balls) played for the World Championship against perennial broomball power Cullens in what turned out to be an epic defensive struggle. We fell short, losing 1-0 but we put up a valiant fight. Most of the media picked us to be out knocked out in first game due the serious of illness and injuries that have ravaged our team during the season. Despite all the naysayers we managed to win our first playoff game 1-0 against Hooker’s N Blow behind our stellar defense and my shoes. After less than a minute break between games we headed to the Championship against Cullens who had at least 3 complete lines and a Junior Varsity at their disposal. We played solid but in the end we just came up short.

There’s always next year.

Broomball Shootout.

If you ever wondered what happens when a Broomball game is tied after a 5 minute overtime the answer would be a shootout. Truly a sight to see. The photographs below are between the Slippin’ Sliders and Off On The Ice. Off On The Ice ended up winning the shootout after 6 shooters.

Ice Hockey at Warren Park

Ice Hockey at Warren Park.

After a couple weeks of organizing, about 20 ‘avid’ skaters faced the weather and played an outdoor game of ice hockey at Warren Park in the freezing rain. We only had one goalie but managed to put together two complete teams and play a relatively competitive game.

After the game several players made it to Finely Dunnes for drinks and tales of glory. There was a good showing and the NHL Network was on the big screen. A good time was had by all.

By the end of the night Julie and I decided to make our way to the local Jewel-Osco to seek out the wisdom and advice of the Gordon Fishermen:

Rough seas ahead indeed.
