Football is Upon Us.

All American: Jim Thorpe

The 138th Football Season begins tomorrow and kicks off in full force this weekend. As many will agree, it’s been way too long since the end of last year. My top five signs that Football is upon us (in no particular order):

  1. School supplies are on sale.
  2. Baseball is halfway through the season.
  3. Browns fans have come back to the annual realization that they have no chance of competing in the NFC North.
  4. I have read 5 different ‘Preseason’ College Football periodicals.
  5. Pork Loin is about to become a staple of my diet.

If for some unamerican reason you didn’t recognize the man above, he is Jim Thorpe. The greatest American athlete of all time. Any man who jukes the future Supreme Allied Commander and scores a touchdown will forever be known by me as the Greatest American Athlete of All Time.

Civilization nearly collapses.

I have no idea.

The photo above was the end of an interesting night which included Civilization nearly coming apart at the seams.  In much of the MidWest there was a storm that was rather violent;  toppling trees, bringing down power lines and questioning all that we thought was good.

Things I saw last night during and after the storm that make no sense to me:

  1. My neighbor and a kid using brooms to sweep water out of the alley behind my house, while standing in a  6 inches of water as lighting is currently striking.
  2. Two people standing in pouring rain with an umbrella under a power line that has fallen in a tree.
  3. A man coiling up a down powerline in the rain like it was an extension cord.
  4. A huge tree completely uprooted and resting on a house.
  5. A large tree that broke at the base of the trunk and completely destroyed a Honda Civic.
  6. A bowl of pills sitting next to my porch, much like candy on Halloween night.

A Baughman Wedding.

Nick and Jenn Baughman.The Baughman’s.

This weekend Julie and I headed to Deer Creek in Ohio for the Baughman Wedding. This was probably the last wedding I’ll be at or in for some time so we made sure to stick it out until the very end of the night. It was well worth it.

The Photographing of a Photographer:

Bride Groom, Photographer & Assistant.

A Professional at work.Look at his form… it’s all in the fundamentals. In the zone… mental focus is paramount. This is where the long hours of planning pay off… endurance. At this moment I’ve been caught photographing a photographer. The equipment of a veteran. Fluids are vital.

While Cook and I waited for the photographer to do his thing we began to notice how as the ‘shoot’ went on he really stepped up his game. His form was precise, his focus intense and his timing perfect. In two words, it was: GAME ON.

The Heights:

The Heights: Gary Massey, Arden Banks, Jamal Wittenberg, Ryan Carter, Nik Bronder and Nick Cook. The Nick’s: Nik Bronder, Nick Cook, Nick Baughman.Kristin (Thompson) Jeffery, Nik Bronder, & Lori Fobes.

This weekend was probably the first time in 9 years that I’ve seen this many people from the prestigious Franklin Heights High School. It was fun to see everyone and a good time was had by all. Now on to the ten year high school reunion.
