Lincoln Hall: Ted Leo + Pharmacists.

IMG_0053.JPGIMG_0072.JPG

Last night Nick and I went to the opening night of Lincoln Hall to see Ted Leo + Pharmacists.  It was the first time I think I’ve ever been in a new venue outside of Promo West Pavilion (or whatever retirement home name it has now). The show was good, the drummer was having a bad night breaking drumsticks and smashing drums during the set. By far the best bathroom I’ve seen in a ‘rock venue’.  I was thinking they were going to pump in ‘urine smell’ or something to create that authentic rock & roll feel but this was not the case.

Side Notes:
* I think this is the third time I’ve seen Ted  Leo + Pharmacists (opening for Pearl Jam in Hartford, at River to River Festival in New York and I think at Lollapalooza).
** Nick’s roommate Noah is the bass player for Ted Leo.

U2 at Solider Field.

Last night Julie and I headed to Solider Field for the U2’s 360.  The ‘show’ was pretty amazing.  The stage and the crazy lighting/screen system was unbelievable.  At certain points during the show I got the feeling that the whole stadium was spinning instead of the screen.

Bono’s voice/singing wasn’t really there.  Not sure what it was but it seemed like it was half effort.

Side Note:

* Getting out of Solider Field after a show is a complete nightmare.  I can’t possibly express how futile it was.  Not sure what the expect next Sunday.

** I’ve hit the point in my life where I need a seat for a concert if there’s more than 6,000 people in the venue.  Standing in General Admission isn’t for me any more.

*** It is not socially acceptable to call your friend (or you entire address book) during a concert and hold your phone up.  There are so many things wrong with this I don’t know where to being:

  1. The person you are calling can’t hear shit.
  2. Odds are you’re call isn’t getting through since you’re surrounded by 60,000 other people.
  3. If it does get through your friend doesn’t want 7 voicemail’s of your U2 experience, if they did they’d be at the show.

Nine Inch Nails: Wave Goodbye Tour Pt.2.

IMG_5771.JPGIMG_5816.JPGIMG_5835.JPG

Last night I went to my final Nine Inch Nails show at the Aragon Ballroom.  The setlist was different from the night before but probably not as intense.  I did get to here David Bowie‘s “I’m Afraid of Americans” which was the highlight of the night.

* This is the most intense sound/lighting guy in the business:
