Brewery Tour & My Thoughts On Baseball.

The Miller Brewery. The Home of Miller High Life.

Yesterday Julie and I headed to our first of two Mets games in Milwaukee. Before catching the game we stopped in at the Miller Brewery for the tour and some free beer. As a connoisseur of the High Life since that day in college when Nick Barbone and I discovered a case of 30 High Life bottles only cost $11 , it was a must do while in Milwaukee. The tour was free and free beer was provided so I highly recommend it to anyone that has the chance.

My Thoughts on Baseball:

We got to the stadium early and watched batting practice otherwise know as women shouting David Wright’s name in high pitched squeals. I must say if I had a job at this point I’d have a hard time doing it if every morning if 30 young women were yelling my name. But I digress. After batting practice, a particular third baseman for the New York Mets that my girlfriend is in love with threw a ball my way which I promptly handed over to the lady. Now I will say this wasn’t the only ball I caught from Mets players during batting practice but I like to spread the wealth. Now on to my thoughts on Baseball…

First a Baseball game should only last 9 innings. No matter what. Odds are you’ve already crossed the 3 and a half hour point by then so it should be settled by now. I get the exact opposite feeling when a baseball game goes extra innings than I do when a football game goes to overtime. Second, a Baseball game should never consist of 10 pitchers. Why in the world does it take 10 pitchers to finish a game? It only takes 1 first baseman. I’ll give you two at the most, but 5 per side? Each team last night had a pitcher come in for one batter and then leave. This is insane. Why doesn’t anyone question this.

From Nick Barbone… my thoughts exactly. The difference between Football and Baseball.

The Great Deceit.

The Great Deceit.

Last night before meeting up with Dom and Kelly we went to Merkle’s to catch the Mets game. I had a couple Rolling Rock’s before I noticed the pledge on the back has been amended:

TO HONOR THE TRADITION OF THIS GREAT BRAND, WE QUOTE FROM THE ORIGINAL PLEDGE OF QUALITY:

“FROM THE GLASS LINED TANKS OF OLD LATROBE.

WE TENDER THIS PREMIUM BEER FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT, AS A TRIBUTE TO YOUR GOOD TASTE.

IT COMES FROM THE MOUNTAIN SPRINGS TO YOU”

“33”

Where to begin. As you can imagine I’m pretty pissed. Jim Wallis warned me about this over several Yuengling’s one night but I didn’t really listen. I mainly drink Rolling Rock during football season so it’s been a while. I like how they ‘quote’ from the original pledge because they can’t ‘honor’ the plege. Instead the honor the idea of the pledge but no they pledge. Which is not honoring at all. It should just say “We liked what it said on the bottle before but none of that is true now, so shit was made in New Jersey.”

Looks like I’ll be drinking Iron City this football season since beer is the last commodity to cross the Appalachian Mountains with any consistency.
