Game No. 1: Penn State at Wisconsin

Saturday night I went to my first football game of the year, Penn State at Wisconsin, I was able to add another notch in my BIG TEN stadium belt by visiting Camp Randal Stadium for the first time.  The game was a blow out from the second quarter on as No. 6 Penn State rolled to another victory.  The above picture is of Penn State’s Derrick Williams as he returned a punt for a touchdown in the third quarter.

*After hearing bad things the last two weeks about Wisconsin fans in Madison I’d have to say it was a cake walk.  The only thing (and I stress the only thing) that happed to us was a random middle finger at halftime to which I respond by asking:  “Really?  A middle finger?”.

Cubs Vs. Phillies.

On Thursday Julie and I met Dan in the bleachers for the Cub’s – Phillies game.  The Cubs were down for much of the game until  Aramis Ramirez’s grand slam in the eighth inning.  I’ve only sat in the bleachers once before but I was much higher in the stands.  This time we sat with Dan’s friends who get there when they open and have the front row in left field.   Julie had a little issue with security due to the phonetics of her tshirt but other than that it was a good time.

Big Joe's Turtle Racing.

Friday night after the Blackhawks Convention I took Dan’s advice and went to Big Joe’s for my first ‘Turtle Race’.  If you’ve never been to Big Joe’s for turtle racing I highly recommend it.

Basically for every beer you buy you get 3 tickets, at 9pm (or when the turtles are ready) they begin the first of 6 raffles for turtle jockeys.  If you’re ticket is pulled you get assigned one of the six turtles.  Once all six turtles have jockeys ‘Igor’ puts all the turtles under a platter at the center of the ‘track’, the crowd counts down and then the platter is removed and the turtles go for it.  The first turtle to outside of the track wins and the last turtle or the ‘slowest fucking turtle in the world’ wins as well.  The first turtle’s jockey gets a tshirt, the slowest a free drink.

I never got to race because some one stole my winning ticket but Lauren had a winning turtle and did get a free tshirt.  I’m pretty sure Dan just made a ton of money on side bets.
