Last night Julie and I headed over to Wrigley Field for the final game of the Cubs – Yankees series. We went with Bleacher seats for the first time this season since Julie was meeting some friends at the game and it gave us the most flexibility with a group. All weekend Yankee fans have been seen around town and it showed in the stadium. The game was sold out and many of the rooftops were filled but we were still able to pick up tickets under face value about an hour before the game. Brett Gardner lead off the game with a Home Run off the fourth pitch but the Cubs came right back taking the lead in the fourth inning off Alfonso Soriano’s 3 run Home Run. The Cubs continued to hold on until Nick Swisher blew the game open with a 3 run Home Run in the top of the eighth inning. The Yankees won the game 10-4 and took the series 2-1. This was only the second time in history that the Yankees played a regular season series at Wrigley Field, the other being in 2003.

Vendors

The aisle I had in the bleachers afforded me great opportunities to document the vendors. As you can tell by the third photograph nobody was pleased that I decided to take these shots.

Signs

Various signs throughout the stadium, notice the electronic blinking lights on the birthday sign and the strict rules for TV: Do not raise your beer in the air. Last time I checked that was in the Bill of Rights.

Three games on the South Side in one week can take it’s toll especially with the weather Chicago has had this past week.  On Saturday Julie and I saw the White Sox crush the Dodgers 9-2.  The White Sox blew the game wide open in the 4th inning with 6 runs including 2 off an Alex Rios Home Run.

Helmet Nachos is a bit thing at US Cellular Field -

* The Nacho Helmets are kind of a big deal at White Sox games.  Throughout the game we saw a steady stream of people in our section with them.  I checked out the vendor station right out side our section and you can see by the images below how long the line was.  I’m not sure of the cost but it didn’t seem to matter.

More info on Nacho Helmets are here.

*** If you attend multiple sports events in Chicago you’ll begin to notice that the same beermen work all the venues.  I’ve so far noticed vendors at both Blackhawks and Cubs game as well as the White Sox games.  Early this week during the White Sox – Indians game I noticed one beerman and I couldn’t place how I knew him and then we caught eyes (yes, I catch eyes with beermen), it turned out he’s the beerman that hangs out directly behind my section at the United Center during Blackhawks game.  At this point I’m pretty sure Beerman in Chicago is a full time job.

US Cellular Field: White Sox – Rangers.

I headed down to the South Side for the first of three White Sox games this week.  The White Sox came from behind to beat the Rangers on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th.  The game started off rough for the White Sox and they were down 2-0 early in the game but they rallied to tie the game in bottom of the 5th off of Brent Morel‘s three-run homer.  The weather wasn’t as bad as expected and it felt much warmer than the last game I went to.
