Last night Julie and I went to the United Center for the Blackhawks home opener against the Redwings. Before the game the Stanley Cup was on hand for the raising of the championship banner. The whole ceremony was well done. The 1961 Stanley Cup Championship team was on hand to pass the banner over to the current champions before it was raised to the rafters.

The hawks were out played by the wings and ended up losing 3-2. Clearly it’s too early to jump to conclusions but I think the Blackhawks are going to miss a lot of the guys from the 2010 team.

Julie has some great pictures of the rest of the ceremony and game here.

Stanley Cup Final: Game Five.

This past Sunday Julie and I went to Game Five of the Stanley Cup Final.  As much as I’d like to see the Stanley Cup won in Chicago it felt like the odds were against the Hawks going into this game.  After dropping games three and four to the Flyers everyone had assumed the series would end in Game Six.  Now if that holds true the Blackhawks will have their first Cup in 49 years. As all the Chicago games have been in this series it was intense and the Hawks started off quickly getting their first PowerPlay goal in about three months.

Stanley Cup Final: Game One.

On Friday Julie and I went to game one of the Stanley Cup Final between the Blackhawks and the Flyers.  This is our third trip to the Finals in three years (much like Marian Hossa), we were at games one & two in 2008 and game one in 2009; all in Detroit.  Thankfully we had a different outcome this time around with the Hawks pulling out a 6-5 win.  The United Center was probably as loud as I’ve ever heard it in the past two years.

Julie’s got some great pictures over at chicagometsfan.com, including shots of a couple of the Hawks goals.
