Bobby Hull at Finley Dunnes

DSC_0012.JPGDSC_0022.JPGDSC_0031.JPG

Last night after the Blackhawks overtime win over the Red Wings Julie got word that Bobby Hull was in the neighborhood at Finley Dunnes. We figured it was worth a trip to see if he was still there.

Finley Dunnes is an official Chicago Blackhawks bar so that’s how the Hull appearance was arranged. Bobby Hull as a ‘Blackhawks Ambassador’ was booked for FD’s. He basically just hung out at a table while people came up to him for an autograph, photograph or just a handshake. My understanding is this was to be a ‘word of mouth’ event so there really wasn’t a crowd, granted it was 10:30pm on a Monday night.

Side Notes:
*At one point when I was taking photographs something funny was said so I started laughing from behind the camera when Hull dropped the following line:

“Don’t you fucking laugh.”

Blackhawks – Penguins at the UC.

Yesterday was our Semi Annual Blackhawks – Penguins game at the United Center (I say semi because for some reason the NHL thinks it makes more sense to play teams in your division 6 times a year than play a home-and-away with every team in the league).  The depleted Penguins forced Overtime with a Brent Sterling goal late in the 3rd period but weren’t able to put away the game while on the power play.  The Hawks won the game on a Patrick Kane shootout goal with all other shooters getting stopped.  For the game being the only matchup all year of the past two Stanley Cup champions there was little hype for the game and it didn’t really feel like a big event.  Nonetheless it was good to see the Pens go down to the wire even if they didn’t get the full two points.

The Shootout:

A lot of people aren’t a fan of the NHL’s use of the shootout to settle tie games, I’m not one of them.  I like the idea that a regular season hockey game has finite amount of time and the Shootout is always entertaining.  I’m just hoping since Patrick Kane won the game he celebrated at Stanley’s agin.

Last night Julie and I went to the United Center for the Blackhawks home opener against the Redwings. Before the game the Stanley Cup was on hand for the raising of the championship banner. The whole ceremony was well done. The 1961 Stanley Cup Championship team was on hand to pass the banner over to the current champions before it was raised to the rafters.

The hawks were out played by the wings and ended up losing 3-2. Clearly it’s too early to jump to conclusions but I think the Blackhawks are going to miss a lot of the guys from the 2010 team.

Julie has some great pictures of the rest of the ceremony and game here.
