NFL Season Opener.

Nik Bronder watching Steelers 2006 Opener Julie Rubinstein and Nik Bronder, Steelers 2006 Opener.

Last night we went to Foley’s New York to catch the Steelers season opener against Miami. At the bar we met up with Mike (one of Julie’s co-workers) and his fellow Pittsburgh fans. The Steelers won so that worked out; the Charlie Batch to Heath Miller connection is alive and well. Besides the crazy painter guy who sat at the bar and tried to convert the Indian next to him to Christianity, it was a good time had by all.

Choose Wisely.

This weekend is the NFL Draft and I couldn’t help but put up this photograph of one of the biggest Draft Busts of all Time:

Brian THE BOZ Bosworth was drafted by Seattle in 1987 and signed the richest contract in Seahawk history for 10 years for $11 million. Three years later he was out of the league.
More on the Boz here.

The American Past-time: Football & Politics.

You can’t argue with the combination of History, Football and Politics. Today the Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Redskins 28-14 and in doing so possibly decided the Presidential Election. Since 1936 if the Redskins win their finale home game before the election the incumbent party will win the election. Today the Redskins managed to let one slip away:

Washington’s Clinton Portis celebrated the apparent winning touchdown with a leap into the end zone, capping a 43-yard reception that gave the Redskins a one-point lead with 2:35 to play.
Oops. Scratch that. Flag on the play…
Receiver James Thrash was whistled for illegal motion

In other Football News:
The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to break The Streak, the Patriots 21 game win streak was shatter by the Arm of Ben(Roethlisberger). The Steelers absolutely dominated Tom Brady and the Patriots by holding onto the ball for a mere 43 minutes of the 60 minute coming out party. Roethlisberger is now 5-0 in his first 5 starts.
