U2 at Solider Field.

Last night Julie and I headed to Solider Field for the U2’s 360.  The ‘show’ was pretty amazing.  The stage and the crazy lighting/screen system was unbelievable.  At certain points during the show I got the feeling that the whole stadium was spinning instead of the screen.

Bono’s voice/singing wasn’t really there.  Not sure what it was but it seemed like it was half effort.

Side Note:

* Getting out of Solider Field after a show is a complete nightmare.  I can’t possibly express how futile it was.  Not sure what the expect next Sunday.

** I’ve hit the point in my life where I need a seat for a concert if there’s more than 6,000 people in the venue.  Standing in General Admission isn’t for me any more.

*** It is not socially acceptable to call your friend (or you entire address book) during a concert and hold your phone up.  There are so many things wrong with this I don’t know where to being:

  1. The person you are calling can’t hear shit.
  2. Odds are you’re call isn’t getting through since you’re surrounded by 60,000 other people.
  3. If it does get through your friend doesn’t want 7 voicemail’s of your U2 experience, if they did they’d be at the show.

Beer Tasting.

Black Hand Ale

This weekend Julie and I decided to jump the gun and taste our beer.  It’s been ‘conditioning’ in the fridge for around two and half weeks.  The handbook we were following says three to four weeks but after consulting some other home brewers we were convinced it was at least worth a taste.

I’d have to say it’s pretty good.  It’s not too heavy but it’s definitely a real beer. The beer is much darker than I thought it would be.  By no means is it flat, so the bottling/capping was done properly.  There also is no real ‘funk’ taste, which was also a concern.  I’m going to spread as much of it around as I can so I can get some real opinions on the taste.  We’ll probably do another batch in the next week then maybe move on to another type.

Last Baseball Game of the Year.

Yesterday Julie and I headed down to South Side for the White Sox – Red Sox game.  We got our tickets through the Blackhawks who were having a fan appreciation day (Julie’s got more on that here).  I was there for the baseball. The Sox ended up killing the Sox 12-2.

I must say the food, seats, views and most importantly bathrooms are 100 times better at US Cellular Field as compared to Wrigley Field.  Granted Wrigley is within walking distance to my house so that is why I probably end up at more Cubs games than Sox games.  This year I have probably seen more baseball games than in any other year, including games in 4 different cities.

I guess my point to all this is that I’m really glad Football Season has begun.

Sidenote:

* Julie and I were able to ‘parade’ around the field before the game as part of the Blackhawks event.  This is a photograph of us on the grass before the guy behind us threw us out.  Clearly we were not supposed to be on the grass.

*** Beermen on the South Side are a little rougher than their North Side counterparts.
