US Cellular Field: White Sox – Red Sox.

After being on the road for a week it’s back to Chicago Baseball. Last night I witnessed the White Sox get blown out 10-2 by the Red Sox. The game started off quickly with no hits until the 4th inning and then it just blew apart with a series of home runs by the Red Sox. The White Sox began to rally in the 7th and 8th but the Red Sox just destroyed them with 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning.

IMG_0851.jpgAt Schaller's Pump -

**** Before the game Julie and I took an epic bus trip to Schaller’s Pump for a couple pregame drinks. We’ve tried once before to stop there but the bar doesn’t open until 4pm on Saturday’s which makes it a little bit difficult for a 6pm game. So we took the bus and it was worth the ride. Cans of beer run $2.75 nearly as cheap as a Lenten Fish Fry.

Fenway Park: Red Sox – Mariners.

While in Boston we made the effort to see a game at Fenway Park.  In a stifling 100 degree heat the Red Sox beat the Mariners 7-2.  We took our time to check out the area around the park before settling into our seats for the game. The heat was nearly unbearable and it didn’t really let up when the sun went down. We got to see Suzuki Ichiro steal two bases to start the first inning and get the first run but it was downhill from there for the Mariners.

By far my favorite part about Fenway was the signage.  All throughout the park the signs for concessions, sections and restrooms were a really cool font.

Last Baseball Game of the Year.

DSC_0288.JPG

Yesterday Julie and I headed down to South Side for the White Sox – Red Sox game.  We got our tickets through the Blackhawks who were having a fan appreciation day (Julie’s got more on that here).  I was there for the baseball. The Sox ended up killing the Sox 12-2.

I must say the food, seats, views and most importantly bathrooms are 100 times better at US Cellular Field as compared to Wrigley Field.  Granted Wrigley is within walking distance to my house so that is why I probably end up at more Cubs games than Sox games.  This year I have probably seen more baseball games than in any other year, including games in 4 different cities.

I guess my point to all this is that I’m really glad Football Season has begun.

Sidenote:

* Julie and I were able to ‘parade’ around the field before the game as part of the Blackhawks event.  This is a photograph of us on the grass before the guy behind us threw us out.  Clearly we were not supposed to be on the grass.

*** Beermen on the South Side are a little rougher than their North Side counterparts.
