Im gonna go with War Elephant. True battle cat may be more controllable, however he can turn into a complete pussy anytime. I have a feeling war elephant will be up for utter destruction and dominance on a constant basis.

While an entertaining, thought provoking query-because who knows when one will have to lead his minions into battle- this inquiry really has no basis in reality for comparison. While the use of elephants in battle is a documented ancient practice (see http://web.mac.com/fivefletchers/iWeb/The%20Five%20Fletchers/welcome.html , or Tolkien’s inspired “Oliphant” ) a tamed predatory cat as a battle instrument has never been recorded and is purely fantastical. So naturally the choice would be the War Elephant. Sorry Cringer.

In the Battle of Zama Roman General Scipio came up with an inventive method of neutralizing Hannibal’s elephants. Hannibal lost all of his original elephant troops (who crossed the Alps with him) by the battle of Cannae, but they were replenished in Africa. First of all, Scipio knew that elephants could be ordered to charge forward, but they could only continue their charge in a straight line. So rather than arranging the maniples in the traditional checker pattern manipular formation, Scipio instead put the velites, principes, and triarii in succeeding lines of 500 men groups. Scipio realized that intentionally opening gaps in his troops meant that the elephants would continue between them, without harming any of his soldiers. He did this, and the elephants passed through his troops harmlessly and were picked off on the other side (many of them were so distraught, in fact, they charged back into their own Carthaginian lines). Scipio’s troops then fell back into formation and continued marching.

That’s why I go with the Mythical Battle Cat. At least it knows not to just continue on a straight line… It’s a fucking Battle Cat.

Battle Cats are obviously the way to go. I mean, if you take into account the evolutionary prospects of cats prone to battle, as evidenced by the ThunderCats, there is no contest. Lion-O beats Mumm-Ra, who is a super-natural, ancient native of Third Earth, every time! And you think an elephant could stand a chance? No way.

I hate to be the pragmatist in a room full of idealists, but the fanciful battle cat is impossible- I seriously doubt a large cat could be trained to fight in human war-Consider Roy of Siegfried & Roy. Lion O and the other thundercats can not be considered battle cats. They are mutants like the ninja turtles, possessing human characteristics like language, higher reasoning, an understanding of good vs. evil, and are bi-peds. Not true battle cats- any thought to the contrary are welcome. War Elephant naturally.
