Being a Bounty Hunter is not what it used to be.

As some of you may know a couple of Bounty Hunters (yes, real life bounty hunters) were arrested in Kabul, Afghanistan a few months ago. Their crime you ask? Running their own private jail in a foreign country. It’s the kind of thing that’s frowned upon now days. Jonathan Idema, and two of his colleagues were arrested when an Afghan man alerted authorities that he was interrogated by Americans in a house in Kabul.

Idema and his friends claim they are working for the US Military and that they have had contact with the Secretary of Defense’s office.

Mr Idema and two other American men, Edward Caraballo and Brent Bennett, are accused of illegally entering Afghanistan and running a private jail. A lawyer acting for Mr Caraballo made the surprise announcement that the FBI was giving access to a large amount of potentially key material that was in its hands just before the trial began. The lawyer said he had not seen the material yet, and asked for a week’s delay to study it.

Earlier, Mr Idema, wearing dark sunglasses and a khaki army shirt with a US flag on the shoulder, had claimed that hundreds of videos, photos and documents were removed by US FBI officers after his arrest.

“If I had those documents given back to me I could show every bit of this – I have documents from the Pentagon, back and forth with senior officials at the Pentagon, the CIA, FBI,” he told the court.

He said the documents would prove that “while we were not in the United States Army we were working for the United States Army”.

I didn’t think Bounty Hunters got caught, aren’t they supposed to be the ones doing the catching? I guess the knew look as an American abroad is the khaki shirt with dark sunglasses and a beard. Of course don’t forget your small assault rifle.
