Nassau Coliseum: Islanders – Penguins.

After spending the afternoon at Citi Field, Julie and I headed out to Long Island for the much anticipated Penguins – Islanders game.  We made pretty decent time and were at Nassau Coliseum in time for the National Anthem.  To say our seats were good is an understatement.  The last time we went out the the Coliseum we were probably closer to the glass but not quite center ice and we but this time were were and we were five rows back from the Penguins bench. Best seats I’ve ever had at a sporting event.  The Pens won in the shootout 3-2.

The game started off well with the Penguins taking an early lead and then the fighting began.

Fights

The face off right after Mike Rupp’s goal led to a Trevor Gillies – Eric Goddard fight.  Which is great since these are the two who were suspended from the last game for more than 10 games each.  The Islanders fans wear clearly pleased as if some how this was going to swing the game.  It did not and Goddard more than held his own.

Spotted on TV

Julie and I got a couple of texts halfway through he second period that we were spotted on TV. I find it pretty amusing that people from three different cities were by chance watching a regional hockey game and spotted us for the 10 seconds were were on the camera. Hilarious.

Shootout

Marc-Andre Fleury shutdown the Islanders during the shootout and Cris Kunitz was the only Pen to score. It was great to walk away with the victory.

Yankee Stadium: Army – Notre Dame.

This past weekend Julie and I headed to Yankee Stadium for the Army – Notre Dame game.  This was the 50th game between both schools with Notre Dame leading the series 38-8-4.  The game itself wasn’t very close after the first quarter with Notre Dame winning 27-3 but the environment was really unique. Yankee Stadium was absolutely huge for a baseball stadium.

One of the more interesting parts of the night was the game balls arriving via Army paratroopers.  The jumbo tron had a video of them with head cams on in the plane and then throughout the entire jump.  It was surreal to see the stadium coming into view as these guys descended.

Epic Journey: New York to Chicago.

Julie and I set out on Friday morning halfway across the continent with our two co-pilots; Nick and Patty. Nick and I managed this journey in ‘The Penske’ while Julie and Patty lead the way in the Civic. Considering the nearly 800 miles we decided to spread the trip over two days spending one glorious night in Youngstown, Ohio.

Truckin' It.

Along the way we acomplished the following:

  1. Toured Barley Creek Brewery
  2. Drank 32 ounce beers for $4.25
  3. Never ate at Wendy’s
  4. Spotted 42 of 50 U.S. License Plates
  5. Spent 1 crime free night in Youngstown
  6. Issued 1 last NYC Parking Ticket
  7. Managed to get parking spots for ‘The Penske’ directly in front of two apartments in 2 of 3 of the most populus cities in the United States.
  8. Survived over 16 hours in a car with only an AM/FM Radio.
  9. Listened to an entire 30 minutes of a Blues station that played nothing but fishin’ songs.
  10. Trucked two wall unit air-conditioners over 800 miles to discover our new apartment has Central Air.
